When the Brothers Lau opened their doors fourteen years ago, there were only 30 restaurants in New York that featured Thai cuisine. The number today is closer to 300, yet Sawadee Thai remains in a class by itself. Chicken satay and tom yum koong (shrimp and mushroom soup made with hot and sour lemongrass broth) are good primers. Kai yung (marinated chicken) and pad thai are popular entrees. The Laus also proudly offer fresh Maine lobster with ginger scallion sauce, and fresh red snapper with spicy pepper sauce. The restaurant is not especially fancy, but the low lighting and the lit potted palms that dot the room create a private, intimate mood.
If you try out Sawadee Thai Cuisine, you`ll find an eatery that dishes up Thai food.
