Ever since the late eighties when Chronicle food critic Patricia Unterman proclaimed it one of the best restaurants she had ever visited, Albert Trodjman`s converted storefront has had the reputation of being a masterpiece. This is in spite of the fact that Unterman also said she had never encountered ruder service. Diners sit at one of only twelve tables and make their selections from a menu that changes daily but which is always top-notch. The day`s pan-seared fish fillet might be paired with homey whipped parsnips or vegetables steamed to perfection. Desserts, which also change daily, are not to be missed. Any custard or pot de creme is sure to be excellent.
