It`s not called First for nothing--its address, yes, but also because of its A-list cross-cultural victuals which change with the seasons. The atmosphere is clubby chic, with a sophisticated martini set settling in for late-night dining. Chef Sam DeMarco is currently whipping up an exceptional monk fish with braised leeks, wild rice and saffron cream oyster stew, and pumpkin gnocchi with wild mushrooms, sage and truffle-scented broth. He can do a mean cheeseburger, too. The wine and beer list holds interesting choices, and every night he does up a featured special, such as roast suckling pig on Sundays, p`lla on Mondays, wondrous meatloaf on Tuesdays....The chocolate puddingcake is de rigueur for dessert.
If you go to First, you`ll find an eatery that cooks up new American dishes. Expect to pay over $30 per person.
