Named for Thomas "Alva" Edison, the bared light bulbs say it all. Attracts a chic, hip and interesting crowd, sometimes a la black vinyl. Happening small bar with ceiling fans in the front, and cool, funky and dark in the back, with some comfortable booths. The food is fabulous and so is the wine list, ambiance and service. The California-type menu is unique and tasty, with lots of interesting polentas, combos and flavors, and great presentation. Try the wonderful beet and goat cheese salad or the Alva veal stew.
With a menu offering a new American cuisine, this is an upscale bistro. Expect the average entrée to cost between $20 and $30, and there`s a prix-fixe menu. Plan to dress casual.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has a colorful and contemporary décor. The lighting is warm. The restaurant is small with seating for 55 people, and is comfortable and relaxed and attracts a middle aged clientele.
More Reasons to Go: Alva is appropriate (if not ideal) for groups and private parties.
