Step right up to this chic Vietnamese hangout full of palm fronds, both potted and painted all over the walls, and slip into a side booth for prime viewing of the beautiful people sashaying down the long middle aisle. You`ll pay more here than at other Vietnamese spots, but you get what you pay for: Chef Huy Chi Le is famed for such goodies as fried spring rolls with shrimp, bay scallops and crab, steamed ravioli stuffed with chicken and shiitake mushrooms, crispy whole red snapper with pimento sauce, and spicy sliced chicken breast with lemongrass and ginger. Check out the special pre-theater dinner.
Concentrating on a French and Vietnamese menu, this is an upscale restaurant. Expect the average entrée to cost over $20, and dress casual, but fashionable.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has a tropical theme. The interior is accented by green tones, enhanced by flowers and plants, and the lighting is set quite dim. With seating for 120 people, the restaurant is cozy and comfortable and relaxed and attracts a mature and classy clientele. Table talk requires you to speak up a bit here.
Eating & Drinking: Open for dinner.You`ll find that there a lounge inside.
Of Interest: Indochine has been around a while, but given its proximity to the Public Theater -- it`s still hot ... known to be hangout to celebrities like, Ellen Barkin, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.
