Open 24 hours, priced right, and in operation since 1954, the Veselka is an East Village institution that just won`t let you down. Be it coffee or kielbasa, banana walnut muffins or cold sour creamy borscht, Veselka has something for everyone. Even the recently renovated decor satisfies both traditionalists and modernists alike with its glass fronted, sleek interior juxtaposed with murals and wood paneled walls. The Eastern European waitstaff is very friendly, but not especially speedy, so bring a newspaper and feel free (or forced) to linger.
Veselka dishes up Ukranian and European cooking. Expect the average entrée to cost under $8.
