Hayes Valley hasn`t been the same since former actor and theater devotee David Nemoyten opened Mad Magda`s. The furnishings are a collection of garage sale finds, 1930s antiques, and pre-war teapots. A mix of artists, tattoo royalty, Hayes Valley denizens, and regular folks crowds in for the Russian-esque offerings that include borscht, piroshkis, and shashlik. Palm readings and tea-leaf readings are offered regularly and there`s live entertainment on the weekends.
This leisure café serves an American cuisine an emphasis on pastries, sandwiches and soups. Expect the average entrée to cost under $8.
